Member Profile
Garnet
Vaughan, SCMD: VP Membership
Garnet has been an ISES member for four years. During that
time she reworked the ISES newsletter program to prepare
for transition to the current electronic incarnation. She
now serves as Vice President of Membership, which she enjoys
because of the opportunity to introduce new members to the
business and social benefits of ISES networking.
In
her professional life, Garnet wears two hats: she has been
an independent marketing consultant for 11 years and a venue
owner for four.
Garnet's
consulting business is called THE MARKETING DEPARTMENT.
She works personally with her clients to help them developed
fully-integrated marketing plans that will enhance their
business productivity. That can include strategies for market
research, advertising, special events, sponsorship and public
relations. Locally her projects have included the public
relations for Castleton Square and Circle Center, the marketing
and re-grand opening for the Fashion Mall and the Glendale
Mall Grand Opening.
Garnet
discovered her love of special events during her tenure
with the Simon organization. During that time she was responsible
for mall grand openings, which included everything from
VIP dinners and ribbon cutting ceremonies, to 10k runs to
hot air balloon races, and she also managed the Grand Opening
of Greenwood Park Mall as its Marketing Director.
In
1998 Garnet blended her love of real estate and special
events by purchasing a property in Greenwood and converting
to a venue for private parties and meetings. The 1912 historic
home sits on three naturally landscaped acres just south
of Greenwood Park Mall and only five minutes from I-65.
Garnet
named the property Winchester Place, after the family that
lived there and raised swans, for which the locals named
the property "swan lake." As a venue, Garnet calls
it "The Natural Place for Special Occasions."
Winchester Place provides indoor and outdoor settings for
corporate and social events. The grounds are best suited
for tented events up to 150. The home accommodates up to
100 people for an open house event and 42 for a sit down
meal function.
Garnet
believes there are a few distinct advantages to having an
event at Winchester Place: the gardens, which feature a
gazebo and pond surrounded by glorious old weeping willow
trees, provide a beautiful setting for any special event.
The house, still set up like a home, provides businesses
and families a very intimate event venue. And whether your
function is indoors or out, you have complete catering flexibility.
While
not marketing for others or managing the property, Garnet
serves the community as a member of the local organizing
committees for both the NCAA Final Four and the Big Ten
Basketball Tournaments here in town. She serves on the Board
of Directors for the Information and Referral Network, a
United Way Agency that facilitates communications between
people who need human services and those who provide them,
and is a member of the Greenwood Redevelopment Commission.
Her
parting words for this profile: If you are already an ISES
member, maximize your investment by activating your membership.
Get involved. Go to the meetings. Sit next to someone you
don't know. Find out how you can work together for mutual
rewards. If you are not a member, join now. The new ISES
membership program gives you an opportunity to join now
and only pay prorated dues -just $199. And if you are reading
this and haven't ever been to an ISES Indiana meeting, mark
your calendar for April 16 and plan to join is for a fabulous
luncheon and guest speaker Steve Kemble at the Indiana Roof
Ballroom. It will be grand!
