Member Profile
Bruce Livingstone, Treasurer
Bruce
landed in Indianapolis about 3 1/2 years ago to become
the Director of Catering of the “new” Indianapolis
Marriott Downtown just 7 months before its opening in
February of 2001. Coming to the Midwest from Southern
California was an easy decision because he wanted to
move closer to his family and friends on the East coast
(but not “too close”) and as Bruce said, “for
what I paid for my house in Broad Ripple, I couldn’t
buy a one-bedroom condo in Southern California.” Bruce
was previously the Assistant Director of Conference Services
at The Ritz-Carlton, Laguna Niguel.
Although
he had always been on the servicing side of events, the
sales side came easy for Bruce. “My mission was
to move to this City and get to know as many people as
possible and book events at the largest hotel in town...EASY!” As
the Director of Catering, Bruce is responsible for booking
local catering events and filling the meeting space every
day he can.
In
Bruce’s personal life, his love for disadvantaged
children brings him many hours of happiness. Just a year
and a half ago Bruce became a foster parent to 2 brothers
that he met while working with abused kids. “I’ve
kept in touch with them over the years, and when I got
the call if I was interested in taking guardianship of
TJ & Michael, I immediately said yes!” It’s
definitely been a life-changing event, and while it’s
been more challenging than he thought, he wouldn’t
change a thing. Both boys witnessed their father murder
their mother 9 years ago and come with some baggage, as
you’d imagine.
Bruce
has also been a “Big Brother” to 3 brothers
in Indy for the past two years through the Children’s
Bureau of Indianapolis. The boys, ages 11, 13 & 15,
have also become a huge part of Bruce’s daily life.
In
regard to what Bruce wants to say to those reading this,
it’s simply, GET INVOLVED. “ISES has
been a huge factor in my getting to know so many great
people I’ve met in Indianapolis, and it’s only
because I came here and got involved right away.”
