About
Robert Sivek:
Robert
Sivek is an Executive Producer with The Meetinghouse Companies,
Inc., a Chicago-based special event production company
whose in-house services include production coordination,
theme and holiday décor, A/V services, entertainment
booking and floral design.
His
company is a nine-time Esprit Award winner as well as
a two-time Gala award winner for excellence in special
event production. He has also been personally honored
with a lifetime achievement award from the Chicago NACE
and ISES chapters.
Sivek
is extremely active in several organizations but volunteers
much of his time to the International Special Events
Society (ISES), where he serves as a Past International
President. In 1994, Sivek received the Certified Special
Events Professional (CSEP) designation from ISES. He
is also a member of the American Rental Association (ARA)
and has been actively involved with many ARA committees
throughout the years. In 2002, Sivek became one of the
first 15 people to earn the Certified Event Rental Professional
(CERP) designation from the ARA.

McFarland - The Bridgewater Club
What
does your company do?
How
is it different than others like
it?
The
Bridgewater Club is an upscale
private club and golf course community.
We offer a variety of banquet space
to accommodate corporate or social
groups ranging in size from 14 – 300
people. We also have a beautiful
outdoor event pavilion that is
an ideal setting for wedding ceremonies
and reception. We offer full service
catering and a wide range of audio
visual capabilities as well.
How
many years have you been in the
industry?
I have been in the events industry
for eight years.
What
led you into the event industry?
It was totally by accident. I took
a job that required event marketing
(desktop publishing and graphic design
skills), as well as event planning.
I had the skills to do the marketing
part – and just figured I’d
learn the event planning side as I
went. Best decision ever!
What
was your very first job?
My very first job was as a cashier
at a grocery store in my hometown of
Corydon, IN. It was the same store
my sister worked at all through high
school and college 14 years earlier
Is
there a specific person who guided
you to your career path or has inspired
you to work as you do today?
The
first hotel I worked at was the Marriott
North here in Indianapolis. I started
as the sales assistant, but quickly
fell in love with the weddings that
Robyn Sweet, then Catering Manager,
was doing. I followed her around like
a puppy dog, and was very inspired
by how she handled her brides, vendors
and staff. I knew then and there that
I always wanted to be involved in the
wedding and special events industry.
Why did you decide to join ISES? What
do you hope to get out of it?
I left the market in 2004 to move to
Louisville, KY because I needed to be
closer to my family for a few years.
When we decided to move back, I knew
I had to join ISES to bring me up to
speed on industry vendors and build relationship
that could help transition my career
back to the Indianapolis market. It made
the transition process much quicker,
and helped me build great relationships
in the industry as well.
