Spotlight
Bob
Ridge, IndyVisual
What
does your company
do?
IndyVisual is a video and multimedia production studio specializing
in the creation of elegant wedding films through candid, artistic
cinematography.
How
many years have you been in the industry?
I have been in the television and/or video production business
in some form or another ever since I graduated from Indiana University
in 1989. However, I have been in what I like to call the “happiness” business
ever since I filmed my first wedding in 1993.
What
led you into the event industry?
I was told in the early days of my video business that shooting
weddings and events would provide a great baseline income from
which to build the business. Little did I know at the time that
I would enjoy event videography so much, I would decide to “go
boutique” and specialize exclusively in weddings and events
by the year 2000.
What
is your most memorable event? Why?
We have covered a lot of truly incredible events with budgets
ranging from $10K to over $1M. But the most memorable event has
to be my first destination wedding shoot in St. Kitts a few years
ago. I had spent over a dozen years envying my many photographer
friends who got to travel with their clients, and I couldn’t
have been more excited when my turn finally came. From the beautiful
island itself to the wonderful clients, guests and fellow vendor
friends I worked (and played) with, the week was filled with
sights, sounds, laughter, adventures, misadventures and memories
that will always stay with me.
What
is your favorite restaurant?
This will sound corny, but any restaurant where I am in the company
of friends or family is my favorite restaurant at that time,
as I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. (Unless the food
was really, really bad.) It also depends on what I’m craving.
For example, when I need a quick sweet-tea fix on the road, nothing
beats good old McDonald’s – at least until McAlister’s
starts building drive-thrus. But if pressed for an answer, I’ll
say it’s a restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand called Coca,
not just because of the food, but also the memories. I grew up
with it, and it with me, and I try to visit it every time I travel
to Thailand to visit my mother.
