Brilliance:
The Networking event of the
Year!
Don't miss this Fun and Productive Chance to Meet and
Greet the Movers and Shakers of the Industry!
For
some, the prospect of networking may seem more like a chore
than a fun experience. But even if you are one of those
who dread an evening of shaking hands and balancing cocktail
plates, you will undoubtedly find this event to be a refreshing
change of pace.
Business
Brilliance is certainly not the typical networking event.
It is bigger, better and more exciting than any other business-after-hours
event.
BUSINESS
BRILLIANCE is coming right around the corner. Be sure to
mark your calendar for February 11.
Showcasing
30 of the city's finest vendors and planners, Business Brilliance
is a chance to sample cuisine, meet peers and talk to potential
suppliers/clients about whatever interests you!
Just
imagine, one event that brings together all the key meeting
and event suppliers and planners in the city to one place
and time! You'll be able to gain more experience and knowledge
than a full day can give you at the office! Note, this event
is NOT a tradeshow; it is a display of creativity to feast
your eyes on, with complimentary food and drink.
Oh,
the ideas and contacts you will get while at the event!
So, come and join ISES Indiana for the 2003 3rd Annual Business

Start
off the New Year with a Mission
The
corporate business world has long used mission statements
to define a company's focus and intent. But, have you ever
thought about making sure your event has a mission statement
as well?
An Event Mission Statement is the key to a successful event.
It helps you clearly define what your message is and helps
ensure its effectiveness. Here are some questions to ask
as you plan the goals and mission of your next event:
Who
is the audience? Are you marketing to an internal sales
force? To the public at large?
What
impact will your event have on your audience?
What
is the desired outcome? Public relations? Specific sales
goals?
More
often than not, the main objective of an event is to generate
a feeling of goodwill among the attendees and the hosting
company or organization. Sometimes, obtaining press coverage
or public relations among the general public may be the
main goal. If this is the case, extra attention needs to
be paid to making sure the event, its features and attractions
are press-worthy.
Once
you've defined your audience and the message, then imagination
can come into play. Reaching into a person's emotions is
the buy-in; you have to touch them. Find the emotional appeal
in your product and create that feeling in your event. Every
audience is different, and finding that difference is key.
Winter
Weather is Upon Us
As
everyone knows, the winter months in Indiana can bring snowy
and icy conditions. As event professionals, we all need
to remember our responsibility when it comes to making our
events accessible. Snow or ice on walks leading to an event
may not only be an inconvenience, but also a hazard and
liability. Also, as a planner or supplier working at an
event, you'll need to make sure you can get to the location
on time, unhampered by weather delays.
Take
some precautions ahead of time.
Items to check on your vehicle:
- Battery
- Antifreeze
- Wiper
Blades and windshield washer fluid (the antifreeze type)
Lights (clean your lights off as you clean your windows)
- Brakes
- Heater
and Defroster
Winter
Car Kit:
- Flashlight
with extra batteries
- Blankets
- First
aid kit
- Matches
- Extra
gloves, mitten and a stocking cap
- Jumper
cables
- Bottled
Water
- Ice
scraper and a broom or brush
Your
vehicle needs more time to get going in the winter just
as you do, so run your engine fifteen minutes prior to heading
out. Maintain at least half a tank of gas, so you won't
want find yourself stuck on the side of the road. Finding
extra time in the day may be difficult, but being unrushed
as you travel to your destination means less frustration
if you do encounter an unexpected delay.
When shoveling that snow that is in the front of your establishment,
remember safety. Although shoveling snow may burn calories,
it can also be dangerous to your body. Here are some safety
tips for when you need to pick up that shovel after the
next snowstorm:
- Avoid
eating a large meal, drinking alcohol or caffeine, or
smoking before hand
- Dress
in layers, and remove them as you get warm. Always keep
your head hands and neck covered
- Get
a shovel that is the right height for you, and even with
a bent angle for better back support
- Tackle
heavy snow in two stages: begin by skimming off the now
from the top and then remove the bottom layer
- Get
to the shoveling when the snow is fresh, so that it is
lighter to lift
- Push
the snow rather than lift, if possible
- Take
frequent breaks
Remember
to always be careful where you step in the winter months;
you never know when there is ice under the snow!
