If
you missed Jingle Mingle this year, you missed a lot! Food
provided by AVI Food Systems and festive holiday
cocktails from Indiana Vodka set the stage for a deliciously
fun night at the Indiana State Museum. The space was stunning
with the sexy, new white chiavari chairs and white crush linen
from A Classic Party Rental. Add in the interactive amusement
of “Minute to Win It” games and AMS’s photo
booth and holiday tunes, and you’ve got a memorable night.
Thanks to Bello Romance Photography, we have evidence of the
priceless moments from our successful membership drive! Here’s
to all the members, new and old! Stay tuned for more fun in 2011!

Kate
Berglund
Director at Large
President, KB Design llc
Kate Berglund decided in 2005 to take a risk, follow her
passion, and fill an unmet customer need. Kate realized while planning
her own wedding in 2004 that new brides often just followed their
checklist. Kate wanted more. She wanted to give her guests an experience
not just an event. With that, Kate opened KB Design llc, a luxury
event branding company for personal, corporate, and social events.
After receiving her
undergraduate arts degree from the University of Wisconsin
- Madison, Kate sharpened her skills at Fiskars
Brands, Inc., home of the orange handle scissors, providing art
direction for their Home/School/Office & Craft division.
Moving to Indiana in 2003 with her husband, Kate continued her
design experience with a local design firm where she stayed until
she opened KB Design.
Serving clients in
Indianapolis, Chicago, L.A. & New York,
Kate is known for her creative vision when designing for your
event & applies her fundamental corporate branding skills
and deep customer focus to every event she brands. Just like
corporate branding, event branding strives to create an emotional
or psychological response with customers or in this case - your
guests.
Kate is an active member of ISES (International Special Events
Society) as a Director at Large board member for Strategic Alliances.
She is also part of the founding board for Indianapolis
Chapter of Wish upon a Wedding - Marketing Chair. In 2010, she
was voted to be a VIP Women of the Year for the NAPW (National
Association of Professional Women). She enjoys supporting several
non-profit organizations including Jane Addams Hull House and
FamilyPrint.org.

Robin
Shanks
Manager for Event Sales and Strategic Planning
Hall of Music Productions-Purdue University
What is your title and position at your current company?
Manager
for Event Sales and Strategic Planning
What does your company do? How is it different than
others like it?
Hall of Music
Productions provides management, technical and guest relations
functions for the Purdue West Lafayette
campus, primarily in the 6000 seat Elliott Hall of music
but also as well for Loeb Playhouse (1000 seats), Fowler Hall
(400)
seats and the Slayter Center, Purdue’s open-air amphitheatre.
Additionally, we provide technical support at Ross Ade Stadium,
Mackey Arena and a number of non-traditional venues. Lastly,
we collaborate with other educational institutions (K-12 & Higher
Ed) as well as community groups to provide technical support.
How
many years have you been in the industry?
If we include
the garage band I ran lights for when I was 17…30 + years. “Events” is
all I have ever done. Bands, technical production, facility
management, sales. What
was your very first job?
“Real job?” Running
sound for Indy’s own Henry Lee Summer. I got into Special
Events working with Mark Dodd at Dodd Technologies. What
lead you in into the event industry?
I enjoy the creativity.
Bands play the same music, as good as it is. Special events are
always unique and therefore more challenging. And with special
events, everyone is more of team. A caterer (when working with
bands) was a service provider -but in special events they are
my partners!! Why
did you decide to join ISES?
ISES
is the preeminent organization for special events! No offense
meant to any other organization,
but that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! What
is your most memorable event? Why?
Wow, that’s a
tough one. So many events come to mind. Oddly, probably an SCi
(Service Corporation International) show at the Fairmont Hotel
in San Francisco in the late 80s. The challenge was in that these
folks provided funeral-related services. They were a surprisingly “lively” bunch
once the show got going though! I’d like to think we
(the event team) made that happen for them. What’s one thing most people don’t
know about you?
I collect World War II ephemera. If
you were not in the event industry, what would be your
dream job?
I would
love to do personal coaching, but not solely “executive
level” but at all levels. It’s a great way to serve
others.
