Board
Member Profile
Kelly Early – ISES Indiana
Chapter President
Kelly Early started working for the family business, Thomas
Restaurant, later to become Thomas Caterers of Distinction
when she was 12 years old. She was the daughter of the
owner Susann Thomas. She continued this to earn extra money
in High School and then to help work her way through Collage
where she attended Ball State University. After leaving
Ball State University she quickly realized that her husband’s
teaching salary alone would not get them very far. Therefore
she continued to work for Thomas Caterers whenever her
schedule allowed. After 6 years the opportunity presented
itself for Kelly to work full time as Controller for Thomas
Caterers, a position she held for 3 years. Upon her mothers’ retirement,
she took the position as General Manager and part owner.
“Being
an ISES member helps keep your company in the front for
people's minds, but it’s not enough
to just be a member. You must be active within the association
to get your true money’s worth out of your membership.”
Kelly
will be sitting for the Certified Special Event Professional
(CSEP) exam this August. “Achieving
CSEP certification is important to me for my own personal
gains. I have become G.M. and part owner of a 20-year-old
company without very little personal experience. Studying
for the CSEP has put me on the fast track to knowledge,
helping me catch-up with my already experienced,
well-established
company.”
When
Kelly is not working, she enjoys spending her time with
her daughter Christina, 9, and her husband, Vince, who
also works for Thomas Caterers of Distinction as an Event
Planner. She also enjoys photography and hot tubbing.
Sue
and Tim Thomas established Thomas Caterers of Distinction
in 1983, after the fire of an arsonist
destroyed their
very successful restaurant in the fall of that year. It
was to be a temporary arrangement until plans could be
completed to re-open the doors of Thomas’ Restaurant.
Twenty years later Thomas Caterers of Distinction stands
as one of the finest catering companies in the city of
Indianapolis.
Thomas specializes in bringing the cuisine and service
of the finest restaurants in the world to the event industry.
