Member Spotlight

What does your company do?
Westwood Paper Company is a fine stationery and invitation retail store. Our focus is primarily custom invitations for weddings and social occasions, but we also create and sell gifts and accessories for these events.

How is it different than others like it?
Westwood Paper Company is a retail store with regular retail hours. We don’t require appointments when working with brides (but do love it when appointments are made). We have two very creative and talented graphic designers who have worked in the store in the past, and are now free-lancing with us. Our customer service is exceptional…it is what makes this store successful.

How many years have you been in the industry?
I started out working and managing a card shop in Carmel in 1990. Prior to that, I sold newspaper advertising to retailers in Corpus Christi, Texas and Bloomington.

What led you into the event industry?
It was just a natural progression, it seems. I have always been involved in some sort of communication and I love to be around happy and creative people. (I’m always hoping it rubs off on me).

What was your very first job?
My first job besides babysitting was at the Dairy Queen in Rochester, Indiana many, many years ago. I hated it, but was able to perfect my swirl on the ice cream cone. I hated making banana splits!

Is there a specific person who guided you to your career path or has inspired you to work as you do today?
I truly believe that what I am doing today was created by divine intervention. I lost my oldest son to cancer in 2000 and was at a loss about how to live my life. When the idea for my own business came to me, everything happened so quickly that I knew I was supposed to be here.

Why did you decide to join ISES? What do you hope to get out of it?
I joined ISES to meet other professionals and to network. I have met so many fun people and have learned more about my own business and what I need to succeed. The creative ideas of others have given me inspiration and allowed me to grow. Thank you.

• Event World is coming up in August---are you attending? A group from Thomas Caterers will be taking the trip! Vince Early, CSEP and Event Designer & Director of Sales, is Chair of Education for the event. Kelly Early, CSEP and Co-Owner & General Manager, along with Dee Haddad, CSEP & Event Designer will be speaking at Event World. If you have any questions, or would like to get together at the conference please feel free to contact them.
