Member Spotlight

Valerie Densmore, Renaissance Hotel

What does your company do? How is it different than others like it?
The Renaissance is a 263 room Full Service hotel on the North side of Carmel, IN. We are the first Renaissance in the state of Indiana. If you have not been in, you need to! We are not like any hotel you have seen in IN.

How many years have you been in the industry?
For about 5 years. I started at the Scottish Rite Cathedral for a maternity leave and have been in it since!

Where is your favorite place to travel?
St. Croix. I did Hawaii last year, but have to say the beaches are way better and it takes half the time to get there.

What led you into the event industry?
I was pretty fresh out of college when the coffee shop I was managing closed. I didn’t know what to do, so I thought I would try events.

What was your very first job?
Babysitting, but for a real job it would have been lifeguarding

Is there a specific person who guided you to your career path or has inspired you to work as you do today?
No. There are many people that inspire me today, but I find they are not even in this industry. I appreciate someone that is truly a business person at heart.

Why did you decide to join ISES? What do you hope to get out of it?

The Scottish Rite already had a membership to ISES when I started full time and decided I should carry it on. I thought it would be a good idea to meet others in the industry.

What is your most memorable event? Why?

That I planned/worked on would be when Nike was at the Scottish Rite. They are an amazing group to have. Personally would be my wedding. I love my husband and can’t imagine anything better.

What is your favorite restaurant?
Z’s Oyster Bar. Truly amazing food, and I feel like that is hard to find these days.

If you were not in the event industry, what would be your dream job?
Helping others in some form or fashion. I always say I want to be a millionaire, not for what I can have, but it just means I can help that many more people.
