Event Fantastic!
1)
How long have you been in the events industry? I
have been in the hospitality industry since I was
old enough to work. My first job was a prep cook
in a bistro in my home town in Kentucky. I remember
being so excited because Sara, the owner, taught
me how to ice cakes!! I thought that was so cool.
I have been an event planner in Indianapolis since
1999.
2)
What first interested you in being an event professional? Its
so cliché to say that "I have been planning
events since I was little," but it's the honest
to god truth. For my parents first or second wedding
anniversary my younger brother, sister and I turned
our house into a bed and breakfast, the little grey
inn, for them. We planned their meals, entertainment
and even designed a brochure of the b & b that
my mother still has. I think I was 12. Once I realized
I might be able to make a living doing this, it was
a no brainer.
3)
What has your best event been? I am
currently planning it. It's a destination vow renewal
ceremony in Maui. This client is ideal. I can literally
do whatever I want with this event and I get to go
to Hawaii.
4)
What has been your worst event and how did you overcome
the challenges? I had a bridezilla
last summer and it took me a long time to be able
to look back at the event and laugh it off. I took
her criticism very seriously and questioned my desire
to continue planning weddings. It took a lot to finally
be able to say that no one could have pleased her
no matter what they did. And I am finally ok with
that.
5)
How did you first learn about ISES Indiana? From
gene Huddleson of detail and design many years ago.
I think it was 1999 0r 2000 and I finally got off
my butt and joined.
6)
What do you feel the value is of being an ISES Member? Networking
and the exposure to products, resources and education
that you can't put a price on.
7)
Words of Wisdom: please share a favorite quote or
something that you would like to pass on to others.
I have a few quotes that make me smile and inspire
me....when I need to laugh, "allow myself, to
introduce myself." - Austin Powers, when I need
to get motivated and make things happen, "money
isn't everything, but not havin' it is." Kanye
West and when I start freaking out over something
silly, "grant me the serenity to accept the
things I cannot change, the courage to change the
things I can and the wisdom to know the difference."-unknown
