“The
cost of educating a child is immense. The cost of not
educating a child is incalculable!”
Desk
overflowing with pens you don’t use? A drawer full
of sticky note pads from the last conference you went
to? Enough office supplies to start your own store? MPI
wants to help clean up your office by taking these items
and donating them to Teacher’s Treasures.
Teachers’ Treasures helps at-risk children get the materials they need
to succeed in school by providing teachers with donated educational supplies
for use in their classroom.
Their goal is to make sure children have the classroom materials they need
to stay in school and learn. The need continues to grow. Since September, they
have experienced a 15% increase in schools needing assistance.
They offer everything from basic school supplies like paper, pencils, erasers
and crayons to art and craft supplies, books, file cabinets and desk chairs
and average 75 teachers shopping each day. The average taken per teacher is
$330. In January 2009, we distributed $362,113 worth of products.
Some of the products we distribute come from companies or organizations moving,
re-branding, housecleaning or downsizing. Other products come to us through
the Kids In Need Foundation, of which we and 23 other centers are affiliates,
but we are completely autonomous.
We will be collecting materials all year long. Please feel free to collect
at your office and bring to our monthly luncheons! Here is a quick list of

Education
Conference Wrap Up
Nearly 98 guests, a record
breaking year, gathered at the Columbia
Club, on November 11 to take part in
the 10th annual ISES Indiana Education
Conference.
This year’s theme was “Planning
Events Can Be Murder”.
This
year, ISES Indiana had the unique
opportunity of partnering with the
Association of Bridal Consultants for
pre-conference activities on November
10 that were part of the ABC “Business
of Brides” national conference.
This included educational sessions
with speakers Sylvia Weinstock and
Peggy Post and a pre-conference reception
with ABC at the IMA. This was a great
opportunity for attendees to network
and mingle with speakers from both
conferences.
Thanks to wonderful sponsor support,
we were able to bring in some very
talented speakers from around the country
including Kevin White, CSEP from New
York, NY, Gary Jones, CSEP from San
Antonio, TX, Bill Ferguson, CSEP, CERP
from Columbus Ohio and Andy Ebon from
Las Vegas, NV. Local speakers included
Jim Cerone, Tonya Shadoan, and Jeff
Bowe. The most anticipated session
of the day was the keynote address
given by Allison Melangton, President
and CEO of the Super Bowl 2012 Host
Committee.
JP
Parker Flowers and Chair
Covers and Linens provided stunning décor
for the general sessions that really
put guests in the mood. The centerpieces
each incorporated one of the six possible
murder weapons and the linens were
color coordinated to the “Clue” game
characters. Additional sponsors included
Markey’s, A-Classic, ComedySportz,
Encore
Entertainment, Nathaniel
Edmunds Photography, and Jim
Cerone who sponsored
the attendee gifts this year, USB thumbdrives.
Our presenting sponsor, The
Columbia Club, went out of their way to be hospitable
and offered wonderful food much needed
coffee breaks throughout the day.
The
committee had a ball working with
ComedySportz to incorporate a fun murder
mystery into the day’s activities.
Guests were introduced to characters
such as Lady Gabardine Fuchsia, an
award winning event planner from London,
and her assistants: Mr. Lemon, Ms.
Molly Moss, and Mr. Periwinkle. The
murder occurred during lunch when the
body of Lady Fuchsia was rolled out
on a catering cart. The final reveal
of who did it occurred at the closing
session cocktail reception and everyone
was surprised to find out that it was
Mr. Periwinkle, in the Ballroom, with
the chair sash from Chair Covers and
Linens. A silent auction was also offered
as part of the days activities and
raised over $1400.
Surveys
showed that guests were thrilled
with the speakers and the session
topics
and high ratings were received by all.
Thank you to everyone for helping to
make this event such a great success. Click

ISES
Member Publishes Book
As
unique as a fingerprint, each family survives
and thrives differently under challenging
circumstances. Army National Guardsman and
Bronze Star recipient Major Timothy Stoner,
commander of Indiana's first Black Hawk unit
in Iraq, and his wife Tiffany transform their
experience into the catalyst of efforts to “pay
it forward.” Trading wingtips for combat
boots and managing four children under the
age of six, Tim and Tiffany have turned difficulty
into an experience of graciousness, growth
and gratitude.
Stemming
from the blog established as their primary
means of communication during Tim’s
deployment, their new book FamilyPrint: One
family's unique reflection during war, tells
the candid story of this family of six.
Three members of ISES were directly involved
with the book launch. FamilyPrint, www.familypring.org,
includes a stunning collection of images
taken by Nathan Rowe of Nathaniel
Edmunds Photography in the 250-page coffee-table
book. Kate Berglund of KB Designs was the
overall packaging consultant and brand designer.
And, of course, Tiffany Stoner was the co-author.
However, numerous members of ISES have been
supporters of their story and efforts since
Tim's deployment.
Their
nonprofit organization of the same name,
FamilyPrint, assists the families of
veterans deployed overseas. Striving to support
both the soldier in harm’s way as well
as the family here at home, FamilyPrint offers
programs that assist with: the outbound and
inbound transition of the soldier, childcare
support during deployment, and financial
assistance for families in need of handyman
services.

Spotlight
Bryna
O'Neill,
Indiana State
Museum
What does your company
do? How is it different
than others like it?
Located in White River
State Park, the museum
offers a unique venue
with incredible architecture
and beautiful views.
We offer a variety of
spaces, ranging from
the re-created L.S. Ayres
Tea Room to the dramatic
Governor Frank O'Bannon
Great Hall with its soaring
100-foot ceiling and
spectacular views of
the Canal and Military
Park.
Because we have multiple
event spaces, we can
accommodate a variety
of events, from intimate
gatherings to museum-wide
buffet receptions for
more than 2,000.
How many years have
you been in the industry?
7 years
What led you into the
event industry?
I was waiting tables
at a resort in Scottsdale
while I was finishing
up with school. I knew
that I loved being in
Food & Beverage,
but I really liked the
idea of planning events.
My major was Recreation
and Tourism Management,
but I was able to take
two Special Event classes.
I loved them! Catering/Facility
Rentals seemed like the
best of both worlds.
What was your very first
job?
I was a hostess at a
family owned Italian
restaurant in Philadelphia.
I was 15 years old.
Is there a specific
person who guided you
to your career path or
has inspired you to work
as you do today?
There is not a specific
person, but a specific
company. I worked for
Four Seasons Hotels for
five years, at three
properties, Scottsdale,
AZ, Jackson Hole, WY
and Philadelphia, PA.
Working for a company
with such high standards
helped me to be the best
I can be. It is not enough
to meet expectations;
the goal is to exceed
expectations!
Why did you decide to
join ISES? What do
you hope to get out
of it?
I joined ISES because
I was new to Indianapolis
and I needed to get
to know all the players
in town. More importantly,
the networking and
educational opportunities
are endless, it has
been great to get more
exposure for the museum.
The Indiana State Museum
is a fabulous venue,
and being a part of
ISES, I get to tell
people all about it,
all the time! Plus,
the ISES members are
awesome, I have met
so many great people.
