October Meeting Recap

The October monthly luncheon had record attendance as members and guests turned out in force to view the beautiful new D’Amore event space, located on the 48th floor of the Chase Tower, and hear from international speaker, Tim Lundy, CSEP from New York, who has over 31 years of experience in culinary planning and event design. Tim shared some of his best industry tips and trends with ISES Indiana members.

- Look for unusual venues that are unique. Help keep décor costs down by using natural surroundings.
- Pairings are a big trend: Wine, Scotch, Bourbon and Vodka.
- Minimalist look is in. Say more with less.
- Details!!

  • Stencil menu directly on to the charger plate
  • Print decorative and themed menu cards, table numbers, & place cards
  • Make your own custom linens
  • Use creative lighting and foliage to define your event space
  • Use geometric shaped china

- Use entertainment in an unusual way (silk dancers performing from tree branches)
- Crystal is back by popular demand. Lots of glass on tables.
- Food trends

  • Tapas style bites/pairings: plate served sitting on top of drink glass
  • Deconstructed salads
  • Exciting flavor combinations: Venison & Blue Cheese Meatballs
  • Nostalgic foods such as passed Chocolate Chip Cookies with mini shots of Bailey’s & Cream
  • Cupcake wedding cakes (yes, still a trend)
  • Color on wedding cakes (match to the table linen print)
  • Architectural foods and unique containers (serve dessert in square votive candle holder)

Special thanks to our October meeting sponsors: D’Amore, Thomas Caterers of Distinction, Detail & Design, and Evans Audio Visual.

Menu: Mesclun Green Salad, Hazelnut crusted Pork Tenderloin with a Port Maple Demi-glaze, Butternut Squash Souffle, Homestyle Haricot Verts, Homemade Rolls with Butter, Champagne Mousse and Pop Rock Push Ups paired with a Strawberry Berry Bite.

Meet the Board

Jen McKaig
President-Elect
Crowne Plaza Hotel at Union Station

As a graduate of Ball State University, Jen is using her Communication degree to its fullest! Jen McKaig loves her job as the Director of Catering at the Crowne Plaza at Historic Union Station. She has worked for General Hotels Corporation for 10 years, starting out in Hotel Sales with the Homewood Suites by Hilton brand, as a Sales Manager then Director of Sales. While Jen enjoys sales, she found it better suited her talents to work with selling and servicing special events versus selling guest rooms only. Now she gets to use her sales knowledge to book one of the most unique venues in the city, Historic Union Station. Her attention to detail and willingness to go above and beyond with each event truly characterizes who she is as a person and event professional. Special Events is truly where her heart is!

Jen is also involved in her church, Traders Point Christian Church as a member of the Guest Services Team. She helped plan their annual Trunk or Treat last year, is in a Life Group, and she also runs a Friendship Connection Group through TPCC. She loves to spend time with her family and friends, and LOVES Karaoke and Colts Football more than anything else. Currently, Jen is the President – Elect of ISES Indiana.

Member Spotlight

Tiffany Stoner

What is your title and position at your current company?
Co-Owner of Nathaniel Edmunds Photography, a brother-sister team. We are like a Ying-Yang. I am the ying. Nate is the yang. We each have our own responsibilities and talents yet our clients get the whole package. My main purpose is to manage the business (communications, marketing, finance, album design, social networking, etc.). While we both photograph, Nate is our chief photographer. He manages all of the editing and archiving of images. Guess which one is older?

What does your company do? How is it different than others like it?
We are a brother-sister team with a fresh, cosmopolitan perspective to photography. On shoots we tend to be fun, witty and adventuresome. We never shoot weddings or events the same way. We always strive to come up with something new. Almost like a unique gift to our clients. For weddings, we are humbled and genuinely excited to collaborate with brides and grooms. It is a HAPPY business...what could be better!

How many years have you been in the industry?
We began in 2001 shortly after relocating from Chicago where we were raised.

What was your very first job?
After 'giving away' multiple weddings to gain experience and understand post-production, we had our first wedding at the Hudson Institute (now Laurel Hall). It was absolutely lovely with a perfect couple that actually got ready together. We have never seen that since. They are still married, and have two children.

What lead you in into the event industry?
1) Nate's artistry and talent. 2) My need to be in control and build something. 3) The untapped market in Indianapolis at the time. 4) Our love for building relationships with clients and colleagues. 5) The love of watching a beautiful event unfold.

Why did you decide to join ISES?
Honestly, Monica Richard told me that we should be a part of it. Once I attended the first meeting, there was no question. I immediately understood the collective strength of the group. I knew I could learn more about our industry if I understood the full picture of each vendor's role in the process. Besides, I really like the people that are associated with it.

What is your most memorable event? Why?
We remember something interesting from every wedding or event. But most recently, we had the opportunity to photograph a three-day tradition Indian wedding that was absolutely spectacular. The rich culture and deep traditions left us in awe, not to mention the amazing colors and beauty of their attire. It was an honor to be an intimate part of the festivities. And, we walked away being good friends.

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
I sang with the Lyric Opera of Chicago for four years in the children's chorus.

If you were not in the event industry, what would be your dream job?
I originally wanted to be a news anchor. But now I would love to be a interviewer on the RED CARPET AT THE OSCAR'S!
