ISES Board Update

Six Reasons To Attend The 2005 ISES Indiana Education Conference
By Leslie Swathwood, Chapter President

With each passing day, the event industry is constantly changing. In order to stay on top of your discipline within the industry, you need to keep abreast of ongoing innovations and continually educate yourself. Fortunately, you are not alone. As ISES members, together we can embrace these changes and push ourselves to new heights by taking advantage of the upcoming ISES Indiana Education Conference. Here are six reasons why investing your time and resources in this conference are a must:

1. Interact with real people in the event industry. Despite the continued use of email and Web technologies for communicating with clients, colleagues, vendor partners and others, face-to-face interaction is not yet extinct (thank goodness!). While technical advancements certainly help us do our jobs more efficiently than ever, nothing can replace the human interaction with your peers. This helps us put names with faces, keeps us in touch with who is doing what, and makes us realize that we’re not alone in our roles in the industry.
2. Sharpen your skills. Staying on top of industry trends, finding new ideas (or a fresh take on existing ones), and continually improving our abilities all keep us on top of our professional game.
3. Collaboration. In today’s information age, exchanging ideas and resources with our peers and the need to work together is ever so vital. Attending the different seminars with your peers allows you to get to know them on another level and fosters future collaboration.
4. Keep up with trends, standards, and techniques. Smaller and larger companies alike can feel confident that we are meeting our clients’ goals by staying informed of the latest trends, standards, and techniques in putting together their events.
5. Increase your clout. Although you may not feel you are moving ahead in your current position, staying involved in this industry and professional development activities like the education conference will eventually take you to another level in your career.
6. Save time and money. When seeking ideas and know-how for your events, don’t reinvent the wheel. The Education Conference can help point you in the right direction, saving you valuable time and money.

Your Education Conference Planning Committee has been hard at work putting together a fantastic array of industry speakers, both regional and national in scope. All of this is packed into one great day! Be sure to mark your calendar to take advantage of this wonderful opportunity. I look forward to seeing you there!

Community Outreach Recap

It is that time of year! We are officially on the hunt for a Non-profit Organization! Every year, ISES selects a local non-profit organization to assist with their fund raising event. Last month, Muscular Dystrophy Family Foundation benefited from ISES support with the Scavenger Hunt 2005. It was a great success and fun for all! You may assist with the selection process for this year’s beneficiary for the Community Outreach Project by forwarding names of non-profit organizations to the committee chair, Lori Fields at ldfields@iupui.edu or 317-278-2136. Thanks for your help in getting the COP off to a great start!
