Get

Flower
Barn Recap
Approximately
15 ISES members and guests participated in a very fun and
educational event August 18th at The Flower Barn in Lebanon.
The day began with a tour of the garden area and an explanation
of the different flowers, why they dry better than others,
how they are dried (upside down from the ceiling keeps the
stems straight) and when and how they are harvested. And
at the completion of the tour, the lemonade really hit the
spot!!
Following the tour, we returned to the Barn for a delightful
luncheon, expertly prepared just for us. Our hosts, Norm
& Ginny Mazurowski, have a catering company as well,
also called The Flower Barn.
After
lunch, there was a short program and demonstration on the
flowers and how they are handled when dried. Then, we all
got to try our hand at making a dried flower arrangement
(a tussey mussey). Of course, some of us are more talented
than others when it comes to these things, but we all ended
up with a fabulous arrangement to take home as a memory
of our day together at The Flower Barn.

Business
Brilliance 2004 is just around the corner!
January 26, 2004 at Indiana Historical Society from 5:30-8:30pm
This year’s event is expected to have at least 500
people in attendance. What better way to get your service
in front of so many people then to be a sponsor for Business
Brilliance 2004. The Committee would like to include as
much of the membership as possible in this year’s
event. If you are interested being a sponsor or would like
more information, please e-mail Jason Felders, jfelders@indianahistory.org.

Thomas
Caterers of Distinction
Wins ESPRIT Award
Thomas
Caterers of Distinction was nominated for the “Crème
De La Crème – Off Premise Catering” award
at the ESPRIT Awards at the August Conference for Professional
Development in Minneapolis. Companies from all over the
world are nominated to receive this prestigious award. The
award is presented by ISES International. The competition
was steep with Thomas competing against well-known companies
like Ridgewells of Baltimore, MD and Melons, located California.
Thomas presented an everlasting event as described as follows:
Designed around an elegant Peter Pan theme the guests
at this event were treated to an exquisite seven-course
meal consisting of upscale items such as a Lobster Tower
with Gaufrette, Smoked Salmon on a Cedar plank, and New
Zealand Mini Lamb Rack. Each course was interrogated within
a theatrical performance being presented amongst the guest
during dinner. This required
explicit concentration and timing making the serve and
food presentation an intricate part of the show. Exquisite
presentation and professional service staff made this
event an affair to remember.
This memorable event gained the interest of many to honor
Thomas the award of the 2004 Crème De La Crème!
Indianapolis has the talent right here in your neighborhood,
so take advantage of this and come learn from the best.
Many members just like the Thomas Catering Staff are here
to educate you on how to make your next event the Crème
De La Crème!

Board
Member Profile
Leslie Swathwood, Programs Director
Leslie
has been with ISES Indiana for approximately four years
and is currently serving on the board of directors as Vice
President of Programs. She has previously served as Public
Relations Director for two years and as a member of the
Programs Committee for one year. Additionally, she has served
on the PACE Committee, Business Brilliance Committee, and
helped coordinate the wedding luncheon earlier this year.
Being involved in ISES has allowed Leslie to not only develop
many professional contacts and friendships, but also raise
her awareness of the breadth and depth of the event industry
overall.
In her professional life, Leslie wears two
wedding-related hats: she has been an independent wedding
and special event planner for nine years and has been the
owner/publisher of The Perfect Wedding Guide for four years.
Leslie’s
event planning business is called Elegant Events, Ltd. She
works personally with her clients to help them plan the
event of their dreams, be it a wedding or any other special
occasion. Leslie has planned over 100 special events and
truly enjoys working with each client’s individual
needs, always customizing every aspect of the event to fit
with their vision, taste, personality and style. Leslie
also provides very unique invitations and accessories to
help make each event spectacular.
Leslie’s
other wedding hat is her role as Publisher of The Perfect
Wedding Guide. The Perfect Wedding Guide is a quarterly
wedding magazine that serves as a buyer’s guide to
the Greater Indianapolis area’s finest wedding and
honeymoon service providers. The guide allows the bride
and groom to find everything from A to Z that they need
as they plan their wedding. The guide also helps wedding
professionals book more weddings. The Perfect Wedding Guide
also produces four large bridal shows in the Indianapolis
area each year and hosts monthly and quarterly networking
events designed exclusively for wedding professionals. Leslie
and her husband Jason, who is also an ISES member, own and
manage The Perfect Wedding Guide. In addition, Leslie and
Jason publish The Perfect Wedding Guide in Cincinnati and
Dayton, Ohio as well.
Leslie
is a native of Northbrook, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago.
She attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana
where she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Speech Communication
with a French minor. She met Jason while at IU and has lived
in Indianapolis since graduating 1994. Outside of “all
things wedding,” Leslie enjoys golf, travel, fine
dining, an occasional day at the spa, and spending time
with family and friends.
