Meeting
Recap
This
past month’s meeting was held on the grounds of Coxhall
Gardens – a beautiful new event space located and
run by the Hamilton Country Parks Department. The weather
was perfect for lunch under a tent! The topic was Speed
Networking and how to grow your business. Our speaker, Deborah
Christlieb, Action International Business Coach, offered
helpful advice on how to network and successfully promote
your business and gave helpful tips throughout the speed
networking exercise. Each attendee moved from table to table
and was given 2 minutes to promote themselves to other vendors
in attendance. Many great business connections were made
and it was a fun meeting in a wonderful setting. Many thanks
goes out to our sponsors Coxhall Gardens, Ritz Charles,
Chair Covers and Linens, Party Time Rental and Perfect Wedding
Guide! Thanks for making this a great ISES event!

Moment
Being
an event planner is a profession (and certainly a growing
and highly coveted one at that), therefore to grow professionally
you need to be an active member of your trade’s professional
organization, which in our trade is ISES. In our industry
if you don’t stay current and grow with the business
then you can soon become obsolete. ISES is a great way to
meet people who can either be mentors, peers whom you can
share experiences, as well as clients.

Board Meeting Recap
At
the meeting the board discussed in detail the programs for
the upcoming calendar year as well as the upcoming annual
Education Conference to be held in November. The Education
committee has been hard at work planning and solidifying
speakers. It was also discussed that the PACE and Business
Brilliance committee’s have begun meeting and are
working on some fun new ideas for these upcoming events.
Finally, the Community Outreach Program event “Tackling
Homelessness” in conjunction with Horizon House was
held at the end of August. Per Lori Fields,
the event was a huge success and raised over $42,000 much
in part to the assistance of our organization. A big thank
you to all who were involved.

Board
Member Spotlight
Hi.
I’m Larry Sauer and have become a
board member by taking on the Business Brilliance committee
this year. I was born and raised in Indianapolis. I graduated
from Ball State University with a B.S in music education
in 1978. Shortly after college I married my wife Alice,
of 27 years. Luckily she had a teacher’s license,
a job in special education and benefits, which allowed me
to pursue a career as a professional musician.
Alice
and I are the parents of two adult children, the first of
whom we married off this year at a destination wedding in
Puerto Vallarta.
As a musician I was able to perform for
a wide variety of “stars” through gigs at Starlight
Musicals, Clowes Hall, the local recording studios and many
other venues. I even worked as an extra with the Indianapolis
Symphony Orchestra numerous times. As a member of the Musicians
Union, Local 3, I also worked as a sideman in many “party”
and society bands and saw an opportunity to start a band
of my own.
In 1990
I organized the band etc…, a band
which continues to perform for many weddings, corporate
parties and gala events. I am also a founding member of
a wacky show band called JAYNE BOND & THE PINK MARTINIS.
Over time, through my connections in the
music community, I latched onto the idea of creating an
entertainment company. ENCORE entertainment was launched
in the spring of 1994. My business started in my home and
was a part-time endeavor in the beginning. In 2000 I moved
the office into the Stutz building and have been there since.
Since our inception we have booked and represented
a variety of entertainment: many local and the occasional
national act. One of our proudest moments was to book Mr.
Ray Charles for a local corporate function.
If you
would like to more about Encore Entertainment, you can talk
to me anytime or visit my website at www.encoreentertainment.net.
I am enjoying my membership in ISES and
am proud to be on the board. Working closely with other
members has been a great way to make friends of my business
associates. I hope, with the able assistance of the Business
Brilliance committee, to create an impressive event for
May 2 of 2007. If you would like to volunteer for this committee,
we are accepting all interested people.
I look
forward to meeting the rest of you in the coming year and
getting to know you.
