ISES Indiana September Meeting
Wednesday, September 16, 2009

Have you ever seen someone slip and fall on the dance floor? Have you ever seen someone over-served at an event? When do you need liquor liability insurance and when can you do without? Who is responsible when volunteers serve donated liquor at a client’s huge fundraiser?

Everyone involved in an event, no matter how big or small, has an exposure that needs to be protected. Whether you are an event planner, florist, caterer, audiovisual specialist, or a venue owner, you must make sure you and your business are adequately protected.

Marty Dezelan, with Dezelan-GDM Insurance Agency and Jennie Eades, with Arlington/Roe & Co. have prepared an insightful and humorous presentation to help you understand your exposures and how to minimize them. You won't believe some of their real life event experiences!

Marty has been an insurance agent for 4 years and insures many not-for-profits, caterers, and entertainment-focused businesses.

Jeannie Eades has been with Arlington/Roe & Co., one of the largest insurance brokers in the Midwest, for nearly 6 years. Jennie works with a wide variety of entertainment related businesses, specializing in liquor liability and event insurance.

This will not be your run-of the mill “here’s how to protect yourself” presentation. Jeannie and Marty promise an insightful and entertaining presentation with plenty of important take-aways.

Think you can’t afford basic liability or event liability insurance? You can’t afford to miss this informative session.

Dezelan and Eades will help you make sure you know the questions to ask and steps to take in order to be appropriately covered without spending an arm and a leg.

Biz Bash Recap

We Bizzed- We Bashed- We Biz-Bashed!

Several members of the ISES Indiana Chapter made a road trip to Chicago last week to attend BizBash Chicago. The event, held at the Merchandise Mart was a day of educational sessions and a tradeshow, capped off with the presentation of BizBash awards and a cocktail party at the Chopping Block. The tradeshow was an exciting mix of suppliers of everything from linen to venues to entertainment. A personal fave of the group was the "Actionjump" entertainment, which we had so much fun with, we did twice.

Watching the awards, we were excited to see the great events that had been entered and even started talking about events for this years PACE awards. Awards were capped off with a great cocktail party in the Chopping Block, which featured live cooking demonstrations, a "make your own mojito" station and plenty of time to chat with other midwest area event professionals.

We are excited to be hosting the President of BizBash, Richard Aaron, for the ISES/MPI joint meeting in December and even more excited to return for BizBash 2010.

Member Spotlight
Tammy Pisockyj, Elite Management Services

What does your company do? How is it different than others like it?
Elite Management Services provides high-service valet parking solutions for hotels, restaurants, and special events. Our unique approach to partnering with, and listening to, our event vendors or our venues results in an exceptional guest service standard that is extremely rare in our industry. There is more to valet than parking cars – for Elite, we focus on understanding the importance of the first and last impressions for every guest.

How many years have you been in the industry?
I have been in the special events industry for 10+ years, with Elite for 2.5 years.

What led you into the event industry?
I didn’t start my career with a focus on special events. But almost every professional opportunity I have had combined sales and events in some way, each one strengthening my experience and passion for special events. Now, I could never imagine working in another industry.

What was your very first job?
First job EVER? Conducting market-research interviews – interviewing people about their reactions to different product marketing/advertising campaigns. I had no idea then (I was only 15) that I was learning invaluable and lasting lessons about product & company branding, marketing & advertising, and how it all relates to sales.

Is there a specific person who guided you to your career path or has inspired you to work as you do today?
There are so many inspiring people in my professional world! When you focus on providing exceptional service for a living, your goal is to look at your guests and clients, and find ways to improve service. I am grateful to have some amazing clients who set the bar VERY high, and that provides constant motivation and focus.

Why did you decide to join ISES? What do you hope to get out of it?
I joined ISES for the networking opportunities years ago. It creates invaluable opportunities to build more personal relationships with existing and potential clients, and helps me keep our company top-of-mind – branding the company thru personal interactions.
