A
Letter from the President
by
Anne Decker, Details by Decker
ISES
can take you places! Sounds totally cheesy, but it really
was true for a change. I traveled, with another ISES Indiana
member, Dana Walker with the 500 Festival, to Sydney, Australia
for this year's ISES annual education and leadership meetings,
the Conference for Professional Development (CPD). What
a fantastic conference! If you have never been to CPD, you
need to make an effort to go. You meet the most interesting
and accredited special event folks in the industry, as well
as have the opportunity to attend loads of valuable
and thought-provoking educational sessions throughout the
three-day conference. Somewhere between the opening session
that took place on the stage of the Sydney Opera House,
and the conference dinner overlooking beautiful Sydney Harbor,
I was impressed. From the koala bear, wallaby, and python
carried around at a cocktail party so we could all see them
up close and personal to the sailing regatta in Sydney Harbor,
I was impressed. I won't go on, but if you want to hear
about the trip, just ask me. Otherwise, make plans to attend
CPD every year in whatever city it is located. You will
build relationships and learn things that may change the
direction of your life and your career.
Also,
I want you to know that you will not be hearing from me
each month. I am sharing this spotlight with the rest of
the ISES Indiana 2002-2003 Board of Directors, and each
month you will hear from another board member. Please take
a minute to read about the individuals running this organization
locally, what they do in their "real life", what
they are trying to do as an ISES Indiana board member, and
what you find interesting enough in relation to ISES to
call them and get involved! Recall from last month, let's
SIMPLIFY, JUSTIFY, and SATISFY your ISES membership to insure
you get your bang for your buck.
See
you all at the PACE Awards! You will NOT want to miss it.

Stress-Proof
Your Life
Are
you one big ball of stress? If so, event a laundry list
of "stress busting" tips can seem overwhelming.
So here's the short list: the five essential steps to take
today and every day to get on the road of relaxation:
In
the a.m. Start your day with meditation. Just 10-20 minutes
of quiet reflection can relieve chronic stress and increase
your tolerance to it.
Mid-morning.
Take time out to stretch, right where you are. Stretching
reduces muscle tension and improves circulation to help
your body become more stress resistant.
Lunchtime.
Top off a healthy meal with a brisk walk. According to the
National Mental Health Association (NMHA), just 20-30 minutes
of exercise benefits both body and mind.
Mid-afternoon.
Grab an apple, banana or pear to munch on while jotting
down what you need to do tomorrow. Benefits: You'll leave
work with tomorrow's plan already in place and avoid what-do-I-do-now
stress the next morning.
Evening.
Try meditating again to melt away the day's tensions
relax
with a good book
get to bed at a reasonable time.
Don't
try to fit in "one more thing." Wind down rather
than wind up for the most restful sleep possible. You've
earned it!
